Super Bowl Prediction Event at Riverside Discovery Center The Super Bowl is a week away, but the RDC is so excited for the Denver Broncos achievement as AFC Champion that they can’t wait. This Saturday, Jan. 25, the zoo’s raccoon, Tyke, will be making his prediction of who will win the big game. “Earlier this year Tyke predicted correctly who would win the Gator Bowl game, and so we thought he would be a great choice to predict who would win this year’s Super Bowl,” says Kim Miedema, Education Curator, at the RDC. “Tyke will be given two boxes, one for each team. Whichever box he goes to first is his choice for who he thinks will win the game.” This activity is a form of enrichment for the animal. Every day the zoo gives all the animals a form of enrichment through unique foods, smell, objects, etc. Enrichment helps encourage the animal’s natural behavior, such as foraging, and helps stimulate the animal both mentally and physically. “This is a great form of enrichment for Tyke, but also a fun way for the public to see the animal’s interaction and show their support for their favorite team,” says Kim Miedema. Kick-off for the prediction activity is at 1 p.m. this Saturday. All visitors this weekend to the RDC wearing Bronco gear will receive $1 off normal admission price. So come on Saturday at 1 p.m. to the zoo and cheer on Tyke to pick the Broncos!
