Any change in the MICRA Law would be devastating to Medicine in California and would equally be detrimental to both Patients and Physicians , Hospitals and all other Healthcare providers. If the proposed Trial Lawyers initiative were to get on the ballot and be passed, access to medical care in California as we now know it would disappear. There would be an Exodus of physicians, the private practice of medicine would diminish and the overall cost of every aspect of healthcare would significantly rise, and most important our brightest and best students would no longer choose medicine as a profession. The Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) would be the calm after the storm and would be irrelevant. It is important that any thinking person find out the reasons behind this proposed legislation , the detrimental effects and above all the value of MICRA and how it is the cornerstone of needed Malpractice Reform in our country.
