Any historians out there? I am working on a list of buglers who sounded the call at Presidential funerals since the call was created. There is no evidence that it was sounded for Abraham Lincolns funeral Here is a list I have. Maybe some scholar out there could help fill the holes?? The Presidents are listed by date of death, not by term in office. (You will notice Hoover died after Kennedy) -James Garfield-? -U.S. Grant-Bugler from Military Taps-Trumpeter Krouse of the 5th US Artillery. -Chester Arthur-No Taps according to contemporary sources -Benjamin Harrison-No Taps according to contemporary sources -William McKinley-8 Buglers from the Canton Band, Canton, OH sounded Taps simultaneously -Grover Cleveland-? -Theodore Roosevelt-? -Warren Harding-? -Woodrow Wilson-Frank Witchey. 3rd US Cavalry (Witchey also sounded Taps for the WWI Unknown interment at Arlington in 1921) -William Howard Taft-? Probably 3rd US Cavalry trumpeter or maybe US Army Band -Calvin Coolidge-? -Franklin Roosevelt-? -John F. Kennedy- SP6 Keith Clark -Herbert Hoover-Bugler 5th US Army Band Name?? -Dwight Eisenhower-SGM Patrick Mastoleo (Mastoleo also sounded Taps for the Vietnam Unknown interment at Arlington in 1984) -Harry Truman-SMG Patrick Mastoleo -Lyndon Johnson-SMG Patrick Mastoleo -Richard Nixon-MU1 Paul Johnson -Ronald Reagan-SMG Woodrow English -Gerald Ford-MU1 Gunnar Bruning Any help filling in the blanks would be appreciated!
