Any of my friends an expert on car accidents and car seats? (I really hope not! . . . but could use some advice.) I was in a car accident with our van last week (not my fault -- a lady tried to turn left in front of me. Dumb, since my van is WAY bigger than her little car! All 3 of us in my van and the other lady were ok. Im quite stiff, sore and ache-y, but no major injuries). Anyway, back to the car seat question :: there was 1 (convertible) car seat and 2 boosters in our van at the time (no kids in them, thankfully!). I know you are supposed to replace car seats that have been in an accident. But Im not a big fan of waste and dont want to replace them unless they truly are unsafe. It was front bumper impact and the car seats were 3 rows back. Visually they seem perfectly fine. The insurance lady from the other company (who is paying) said that if I dont feel safe putting my kids in them they will pay to replace them for me. Its my call. But I dont want to replace them if its not needed -- thats just wasteful! Is there a way to know for sure if they have been compromised and are unsafe? My gut feeling is that they are ok, (it wasnt a super high speed crash or anything) but I would like to know that for sure. Can anyone advise? Sheli Roe Moeller, do you know?
