Any of my mathematically inclined friends should feel free to help me spot my error below. I did a similar problem the same way and came to the right conclusion but my solutions for this dont match the correct multiple choice answer. Of sixty, Ive solved all but this and one other from my test review... 3(t^2 – 9)^2 + 22(t^2 – 9) = -7 let (t^2 – 9) = x so that 3x^2 + 22x = -7 3x^2 + 22x +7 = 0 (3x + 1)(x + 7) = 0 (3x + 1) = 0 and/or (x + 7) = 0 3x = -1 and/or x = -7 x = -1/3 then (t^2 – 9) = (-1/3) (t^2 – 9) = -7 t^2 = (26/3) t^2 = 2 t = (+/-) (√26/3) t = (+/-) √2 Answer Key: (+/-) (√78/3) , (+/-)√2
