Any of you old time talkbackers remember the infamous Brian Evans? Hed be the biggest pain in the arse, psycho talkback caller of all time. My first training session with John Haynes, his name came up. This guy was TROUBLE. Hed always call under an assumed name, but his voice was quite distinctive - except when hed put on a womans voice which he always did quite well. His calls would always start out well, hed stick to the topic but it would soon turn nasty, with a ramping up of the intensity and then the bad language etc. For years I had his phone number in my phone directory and every now and then Id get my own back by ringing him in the middle of the night from pay phones, or friends flats or wherever. Only a few months ago did I remove his phone number from my phone, but not before ringing a couple of times to be sure. No one answered. Thought he was dead - hadnt heard from him for possibly 15 years. Then two days ago I heard his voice on air with Willie Jackson and Ali Mau, hed got through my defences - whod be expecting someone you assumed to have died ringing talkback? It was him alright, the call went to order - started out ok but then downhill. Ali panicked when the language started DUMP DUMP!. An elderly woman caller confirmed my suspicions that it was Brian Evans. And he called again today, we chatted for 10 minutes, he called me a right-wing c**t, a f**ken pr**k, dog, whore etc it was like being reunited with an old friend with tourettes. The call ended with the obligatory death threat and that he at 81 could kick my 48 year old arse - to which I replied 42 you old f**k and hung up.
