Any prosecution against journalists or journalists’ sources has a dangerous chilling effect on the pivotal role these brave individuals play in ensuring the powerful are held accountable, says ICIJ director Gerard Ryle in the wake of the indictment of a former PricewaterhouseCoopers employee suspected of having taken confidential tax rulings that revealed aggressive tax avoidance strategies by some of the worlds largest companies.
