Anybody care to rebuke the whole, They would have raced - TopicsExpress

Anybody care to rebuke the whole, They would have raced differently under a different format rebuttal we commonly hear? My assertion is that drivers and teams, because of the fierce competitor in them, give it their best every race regardless of what incentives are placed in front of them. Both Rusty Wallace and Carl Edwards have stated as much. Honestly, look at the #48. If only the Chase matters and the first 26 races are meaningless, why did that team even bother scoring the most points in a season not just once but three different times?! NASCAR is an endurance race, much like the Tour De France: several different individual segments added up to determine a cumulative score over the course of hundreds of miles just like NASCAR has segments of individual races spanning 400-500 miles on average that cover a total distance of over 11,000 miles by seasons end. Its pretty clear what this sport was meant to be; not an artificial win/loss hybrid that only has a place in stick and ball and drag racing. Win/loss can only exist if just two teams are competing against each other in a race; those standards no longer exist once you have 43 different race cars jostling for position at the same time - Will
