Anybody up for a random story i just reminisced back to? Back in 95, ascending into my rebelious stage(11yrs old), I purchased my first ever album. Nirvana Nevermind. Completely fixated on this already dead musical hero,I studied Kurt more than I studied at school. One thing that Kurt threw up a lot in the media was Jawbreakerand the heavy influence it had upon him as a kid. that famous, hunched over guitar playing picture with the Jawbreaker T shirt is how I came across them. Bunking off school and onto a train to London was my pilgrimage to Tower records, Piccadilly. Lourdes for the musically minded. Bivouac wasnt in stock and a weeks saved dinner money allowed me to buy either Etc or 24 hr(on tape might I add). Being a kid I went for etc due to it having more tracks. The first track shield your eyes turned out to be their debut track. I started in the right place. Wore that cassette out till it was nearly see thru clear. Turns out Mat Hoffman was big on jawbreaker too, and I was just getting into BMX. Head First anyone? I was probably the last generation of Mid school kids and was completely submerged in the best era of bmx(in my opinion). I heard this tune (below)the other day and drifted back to days gone by. Dirtbag kids, listening to punk and hardcore, riding our bikes all over the place and living off of broken biscuits, tap water and the best times. 7am til 10pm summer holiday sessions were the norm. Almost 20 years down the line and those were the golden years. Further on in time99? and a small band called Lucero would cover (and triumph) kiss the bottleand another BMX and musical bond was grown. Lucero was a musical representation of one of my favourite cos in BMX,FBM. Goodtimes and not giving a shit was their ambition. Everything tied in so well and for the first time ever, I felt like I belonged to this. It may be a small bike but, it broadens the minds horizons further than any sport or socially accepted hobby around. It shows you poverty, wealth, good and bad luck. It gives you great friends and also unlikely enemies. It steals you from your girlfriend, makes you look Rad, makes you look like a dumbass. It breaks bones, skin, hearts, and itself. Moreover, it teaches you to adapt. A big lesson in todays society. But, it taught me to be myself. Dont fear what others think. A big ole F U to the norm! Shame it cant last forever. So, there you go. A bedtime story for those of you who got this far. I actually enjoyed it. Thanks for reading it. Night all
