Anybody up yet?? Yall best git up cause yall gonna miss something. I know we celebrate Thanksgiving soon and I love this holiday, but Christmas is just around the curve too. To everyone that enjoys these holidays, HIT THE LIKE BUTTON. My Momma used to call it Turkey Day and she made the best turkey gravy ever, with all the trimmings, but I was a teenager before we had our very first traditional turkey for Thansgiving. Poppa always had several hogs to butcher for winter meat and for many years La-boucherie was traditional to us in giving thanks. The whole family was here, Poppas and Mommas. Everyone had their duties. The wood burning fire to boil the scald water was lit up against a half cut 55 gallon drum before daylight. It may sound corny to our young these days, but one of a boys first steps to be grown-up was being allowed to light the fire. A few old crumpled newspapers tucked inside the wood then hit with a little bit of diesel fuel or kerosene and you were go to go. From the strike of the match, it was traditional Gautreaux Style Thanksgiving at its best. All the Family was here, we worked, broke bread, and everyone went home with a piece of fresh cornfed hog. Poppa always kept a whole fresh ham from one hog to boil on Xmas Eve. Poppa made big gumbo on Xmas Eve. Lord, where has all the years and old Family traditions gone? This Turkey Day I know what the Angels gonna eat, turkey gravy with all the trimmings, and they gonna watch as Momma wraps that big hog ham for Xmas Eve. On Xmas Eve, Poppas gonna make all the Angels gumbo, with a lil slice of fresh boiled hog ham.----------Holidays---------A happy time, but a sad one too-----------------------nuff said
