Anyone can interpret scripture and make it say anything they want - TopicsExpress

Anyone can interpret scripture and make it say anything they want it to. People who argue points of contention limited to scripture only are arguing from false premises. Firstly: there is the presumption that the truths of the Christian faith are dependent upon what is stated in scripture. This presumption does not apply to Christianity for the most part and as a way of finding the truth applies only to a relatively new and small minority of Christians as a 2000 year old enterprise with a worldwide presence. So arguing based on different interpretations of scripture means nothing to most Christians and should mean even less to anyone else. Any assertion of truth claimed to be Christian can never substitute for the truths that exist at the intersection of scripture, tradition and magisterial teachings. You can quote scripture until your blue in the face but it will never by itself override what the church as the custodian of the full specific revelation of God, has always believed. It is rather arrogant and naive for anyone to presume that their interpretation of scripture is somehow superior to the Churchs interpretation. How is it that you know more than the Church. What credible claim to authority do you have. Who made you Gods infallible source of the truth. What competence do you have to make statement punctuated with this is what the Bible means?. I hope you know what your doing because you will be held accountable for how you have influenced others during your life. Good luck with that your holiness!
