Anyone else have grandkids, kids, or know kids-at-heart who would have fun with this at Thanksgiving? I am making this to add some fun to Thanksgiving with my seniors. Get a Gobbler Choir started up after the big meal by gobbling to The Turkey Trot song on YouTube. Here are the instructions: How to Make a Talking Turkey These turkeys actually talk, making a “gobble, gobble” sound when you pull a wet sponge along a piece of cotton string. These gobbling turkeys are easy to make and fun to bring out to lighten things up a little or to entertain young guests.(See below for uses and ideas.) You will need: -Orange or brown 9- or 10-ounce disposable plastic cup (Paper cups will not “talk.”) -Heavy cotton string (Synthetic string will not work.) -Ordinary kitchen sponge -Small piece of yellow and red felt -Small piece of felt to match the color of the cup -Scrap pieces of other colors of felt or craft foam -Small to medium craft eyes -Hot glue and glue gun Directions: Punch a small hole in the center of the bottom of the cup. Thread a piece of string (20 long) through the hole and knot it on the outside of the bottom of the cup. Add a little hot glue to the knot for extra security. Cover the knot with a small circle of matching felt. Cut a small piece of sponge (1 X 3 X 1/2) and tie it to the other end of the string. Knot to secure. Cut a triangle out of yellow felt (3 X 2). Apply glue along the long side of the triangle. Bend it slightly and glue it to the front of the cup to form a beak. Cut a teardrop-shaped wattle out of a small piece of red felt. (1 1/2 long) glue it under the beak. Glue on the craft eyes. Cut five or six feathers (3 long) out of various colors of felt. Glue them to the back of the turkey. How do you make your turkey “talk”? Dampen the sponge. Pinch the wet sponge around the string (near the rim of the cup) and pull the sponge down in short jerky strokes, making a “gobble, gobble” sound! (The vibrations caused by the movement of the wet sponge down the string are amplified by the hollow cup.)
