Anyone here living near Grass Valley, Calif? Theres an old cemetery near what used to be the town of You Bet. I used to ride dirt bikes in the area many years go. Id love to shoot that cemetery, but not entirely sure I can get out there in my Escort station wagon. Itd be a -long- walk out if I got stuck... Dont think a full 4x4 is needed. Looking for a ride out with someone also interested in photographing it, or just seeing it. Im busy with work for several weeks at least, and, moving to Australia sometime fairly soon, so a narrow window. Asked a friend if I could borrow his trail bike, but hed just sold it. Many years ago I was digging an old trash pit, and found a small cast iron toy truck. While still digging, just off the side of the road, this old fellow drives up and start taking to me. Turns out hed been born in You Bet. Told me whos trash pit I was digging in! Said the town was build on aluvial gravels and when someone figured out there was gold underfoot, well, the buildings didnt last long... There are no structures standing today, and Im not sure if theres public access to the site I was digging anymore. So, likely not much to see beside the cemetery. Anyone interested, feel free to contact me directly and well see if we cant connect on a clear day.
