Anyone in the arts field knows how hard one must fight in order to get people/audience to accept, acknowledge and appreciate the value of their profession. Whether it be a photographer, a musician, a film maker, an author, an actress/actor, or a painter, it is a challenge every day having to deal with people asking you “so, what do you do all day?”, “how do you manage to pay your bills :O?” , or my favorite “ why don’t you get a real job!?”. I think individuals have valid reasoning behind these questions because it is not easy making a solid living working in the arts , because paychecks are random, you never stop working, and sometimes, it doesnt work out for everyone. But that’s okay, because not everyone who applies for medical, law, or dentistry school gets the opportunity to be one, and that is just life. This past weekend, I was humbled to receive the young entrepreneur from the Canadian Tamil Chamber of Commerce. I was so excited not just because a female received this award (sorry guys) but because they recognized and gave credence to someone in the arts. yaay. Happy Tamil New years everyone :)
