Anyone interested in Silphium perfoliatum and Heliopsis - TopicsExpress

Anyone interested in Silphium perfoliatum and Heliopsis helianthoides seeds? Both are large plants that seed freely, so you need a large area or to be vigilantly pulled out as seedlings. Ill also only send them to areas they are native. Both great prairie plants. S. perfoliatum is one of my favorites. I call it the tree of the prairie. Can get 7 feet tall, the leaf joints double as bird baths, goldfinch love the seeds, pollinators love the flowers, and a whole ecosystem plays out on the leaves. It is also livestock safe for grazing. Not sure whether the H helianthoides is or not, youd have to research that.
