Anyone need a superfine acoustic guitar amp / mini PA? I have this - TopicsExpress

Anyone need a superfine acoustic guitar amp / mini PA? I have this on Craigslist for $400, but Id be just as glad to sell it to someone I know for $300 or an interesting trade. Heres the info: Seymour Duncan Research True Acoustic Response Amplifier – TARA – issued in 1992 at the list price of $1,350, which is $2,200 in today’s dollars, and worth it. It was one of the first attempts, and one of the best, at making an amp specifically addressed to acoustic guitar and other acoustic stringed instruments. It shows a lot of the understanding of good sound reproduction, design prowess and practicality that went into Seymour’s later collaboration with Rick Hall on the D-TAR preamps. The tweed cabinet houses a 100-Watt amp, powering two 8” speakers and a treble driver. The two channels each have a ¼” instrument jack and a low-impedance XLR for a microphone, each with its own volume control. Each channel has its own effects loop, which can also be used as an extra input for a drum machine, backing tracks and such. Both channels have a very effective 5-band EQ, a phase reversal switch, a notch filter and an effects mix knob. There is a third effects loop before the power amp, with its own mix knob. There is a master volume in addition to the individual channel volumes. I have used this amp with both piezo pickups and with magnetic soundhole pickups, and it works great with both. It is a highly responsive, musical amp that does a great job of sounding like a more robust version of the instrument you’re playing. On the second channel, the slider bar is missing is missing from the 80-hz band, though the control itself works fine when you insert a toothpick, screwdriver or similar. Everything else on the amp is tip-top and working fine. The tweed is stained in places and a little frayed at its bottom edges. The amp is in solid and highly functional condition. The quote below is from the owner’s manual: “This amplifier has been crafted specifically to fill the needs of the acoustic guitarist. Every feature has been specifically chosen to give you an unprecedented amount of control over your sound while allowing the flexibility to handle virtually any playing situation. It is truly a performance system design. The cabinet and speaker system were designed to hi-fi standards, providing very flat transparent sound with an extended bottom end. Each of the two channels will accept three inputs (Mic, Instrument, & Effects Return) while allowing incredible tone shaping with two sets of 5-band graphic equalizers and a contour switch. Anti-feedback controls in both channels have been optimized to allow very high sound pressure levels without annoying feedback. You can play guitar through one channel, sing through the other, and mix your drum machine in through one of the three-buffered effects loops. In short, we think you will find your TARA amplifier has the flexibility to handle any playing situation, from solo club gigs to studio work.”
