Anyone that knows me knows how much I love animals. I’m allergic - TopicsExpress

Anyone that knows me knows how much I love animals. I’m allergic to cats, but I’ll still walk a mile to help one. December of last year I began to be a stay at home mom, and I needed something to do, idle time wasn’t something I was used too. I started going to the shelter, and could feel the tug at my heart that I needed to help. Kia would howl up a storm when I would simply talk to her , she was my favorite. I went every day and would talk about her until the next day after I left there. She was adopted, smile emoticon which is great, but time she left, in came the next that captured my heart, and so on, and so on. I felt the need to do something to help, even if it was something small, I wanted to help. A year later, I still want to help. Reading about the $ that is allocated from the city/county leaves me with questions. What is going to happen WHEN AND IF Sumter Humane Society has to close their doors? Other cities and counties fully fund their Humane Societies, why don’t we? If they close the doors, what is going to happen to the bully breeds and Heinz 57 dogs we have here? The cute little pups that get dropped off on a country road, in a box, will they be left to die there? What when there is not an animal control person that notices the pit bull chained in the backyard of an empty house? Will we become like Macon County and euthanize dogs upon arrival? Well then what if your dog gets out, picked up, and euthanized upon arrival, how are you going to feel? I’m not trying to guilt anyone into anything, I want you to think, think about your cat or your dog, and how abandoned they would feel if this were them, don’t you think that these animals feel the exact same way. They want love just as much as the next one does, they want a home, and they want a person that is theirs. I am urging you to donate, to talk to anyone that will listen and those who will not. Please don’t let this shelter in our community be euthanized by us the citizens. IF you can’t donate, volunteer (they are short staffed), foster, or better yet adopt. The image of the pain, the suffering, from this one sweet baby, is one that will stick with you forever, it is one that makes me want to foster, donate, and do what I can for the ones that are still here. Animals such as this baby, come into the shelter weekly. To think this owner walked passed her daily and never fed her. Without the shelter, without animal control, who are these babies going to depend on to save them? You can donate by phone, in person, the These Paws were made for walking gofundme page, mail, however is best for you.
