Anyone who has just started following my journey of 40 years ago and is interested in the earlier parts, you can go to my Facebook page and click on Timeline. You will find all the entries since October 10th. Wednesday November 7, 1973 No rush to get rolling this morning as Tamanrasset will be a 5 day rest, repair and replenish stop before we take on the real serious part of the desert crossing. Tam is really the southern most outpost in Algeria so that as bad as the track has been to here, it will be worse and minimal going forward as there is only a fraction of the commercial traffic that continues to Niger from here.. Tony is on a scrounging mission to see if he can find suspension parts for the trailer as it has taken a real beating on the washboard track. We are supposed to enjoy the huts for 2 nights and then we will camp out for the last three before leaving. It is 980k to Agadez in Niger and Tony would like/hope to do it at 200k per day but I think that is optimistic given our progress over the last couple of days on what are better tracks than we can expect. Tam is a real hard decision point. There is nothing in the way of support for the next 950k and quite a few decide that after what it took to get here, this is the end. There is a great collection of vehicles and equipment that has been abandoned. In my wandering today, I came across a rally car equiped for this terrain but I dont know where it was competing and further along I found two adventurers totally dismantling their Citroen 2cv van. Body off, engine out and down to the bare frame. Given what happened to our trailer, it is unbelievable that they managed to get the 2cv here, never mind expecting to continue south.
