Anyone with kids in their family please read and share with friends and family. I just spent the last 2 days fighting with doctors to convince them something was wrong with my 11 month old daughter. Xrays didnt show anything. They tried telling us she just had an ear infection or was teething. Please be very careful with your young kids if you are ever at a party and they have that plastic confetti on the tables. Vida got a handful and before we could get it all away from her she swallowed one of the stars. A few minutes later she started fussing and then gagging and eventually throwing up. This stopped after 10 minutes but over the next 24 hours she continued to drool, fuss, gag, grab her throat, occasionally vomit and even had a little fever. This was not our normal happy Vida. These are all symptoms that something might be stuck in the throat. Thankfully we were able to convince the surgeon at the Childrens Hospital in Peoria to scope her throat even tho the xray showed nothing. The star was found in between a fold in her larynx. Had we not pressed on and continued to tell the docs that we knew something was wrong, who knows how long that wouldve stayed in her throat or what damage it couldve caused later on. Needless to say, she was a trooper through the whole thing. Her contagious smile and personality kept all the docs and nurses thinking she was fine all while a little plastic star got cozy on her larynx. The real kicker here is that just last night I found out her cousin(1 month younger) who was at the same party just got out of surgery and had the same star removed from his esophagus. Thank God for persistent parents and attentive docs.
