Anzhi to cut Eto’o’s pay by a third With just one year left in Samuel Eto’o’s fabulous contract at Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala talks have since opened between both parties for a possible renewal, however, the Dagestan outfit is demanding that the Cameroon international should accept a pay cut as one of the conditions to remain at the club. The 32-year-old striker, who is also Anzhi’s captain, earns €20 million per annum but would see that pay slashed to €7 million if he accepts an extension beyond May 2014. Eto’o, who joined the Russian club in August 2011, scored 13 goals during his first season and 19 in the second, helping the team to finish third in the just concluded season. However, the four-time African footballer of the year will henceforth face competition from 22-year-old Alexandr Kokorin, who recently joined Anzhi from Dynamo Moscow. The management is yet to make clear its position should Eto’o declines a pay cut. Brazilian side Botafago and Turkish team Fenerbahçe have both shown interest in the three-time Uefa Champions League winner. Russian daily Izvestia reports that Eto’o has met with officials from another Turkish club Besiktas, with nothing filtering out of their meeting.
