Aparanta, was a large exhibition of Goan artists curated by poet and art theorist Ranjit Hoskote in Panjim (April 11-24, 2007) With 23 Goan artists and 250-odd works in a range of mediums from water colours to video installations, Aparanta was set at the grand 400-year-old GMC building. The exhibition also included works by two non-Goan artists, Baiju Parthan and photographer Dayanita Singh who lives in Goa. The exhibition was the first and foremost time the state of Goa recognized one of the its first indigenous modernist, Angelo Fonseca, who preceded the far better known Francis Newton Souza. The exhibition was sponsored by Goa Tourism, whose director was IAS officer, Sanjit Rodrigues. These are my portraits of the artist and organizers that appeared in the catalogue for the show, plus a few more artist who I photographed during that time.
