Apollo 16 video clip, finding white soil under about 1-3 cm of normal, grey regolith on the rim of Plum Crater (Station 1). In the next clip, Charlie holds the scoop with both hands, he manages to pull himself forward and off balance. Next Clip linked at: hq.nasa.gov/alsj/a16/a16.sta1.html#1235204 ALSJ chapter: hq.nasa.gov/alsj/a16/a16.sta1.html#1234926 The median grain size in the sample of white soil is 2-3 times larger than most Apollo 16 soil samples. The exceptions are two soil sample taken on the rim of North Ray Crater. Like the white-soil sample, the two North Ray soil samples have a low abundance of agglutinates (a small, irregular collection of a few soil particles adhering to a blob of impact glass) and low nickel content. The similarities suggests that the white soil is North Ray ejecta which has been gardened by small impacts in the 30-60 million years since the North Ray impact.
