Apologies on missing out the daily night tips on getting your homes beautiful So here is an early morning edition of making homes look lovely and for less And after two difficult but necessary days of donts, we will move to a few dos! And tackle today, the most difficult and ever present issue of the childrens room!! Todays episode will not be on the shantung silk covered princess rooms and the over the top floating space rooms for boys but the everyday changing demands and likes of kids and their age relevant demands of a room that can cost bundles or as we will discover today, pittance. 1) first of all decide that there is some expense involved. Its important as by not doing so you land up spending more 2) children need a space to call their own. If you can spare it, do! Will help the child develop in all sorts of ways and dont crib if they never sleep in that room. They may not, but will still love their room as their space 3) if you have splurge cash, comment here and we will discuss the glories of decorating children rooms in ways you have yet to think of but if not then today is the day to look at budget childrens room that can change without the pain of the additional expense 4) children rooms do and should be child selection in terms of themes. Dont do a Mickey Mouse room if your baby loves snoopy. Tip #6 Children rooms can be done with plastic and inflatable furniture. Thanks to the advent of the Chinese influx, affordable inflatables in every imaginable colour and pattern are available in the market as are comfortable plastic chairs to rock, or study in and even bucket seats. Then there are the bean bags! And you can even customise them with prints of your childrens pictures. I particularly liked these ones below in the chairs Tip #7 Much as you may want to or find it easy, please do not mix the colours. Keep the colours scheme stable in your selection and dont let it run to more than 2 and a max of three colours. Tip #8 Large 2 to 3 feet tall wall stickers are available in most shops for almost every character today. Dont splurge on painting or wall papering your wals with child themes that will change with every year, instead use these. Before choosing the character theme and colour, you must have a discussion with your child. No matter how small he/she is. If they cant reply, just involve them in the conversation like you are talking with them and they are in agreement. This is important. For older kids, this will be very defining. Choose themes and colours together Tip # 9 No matter how much you or the child loves a colour, mute the shade when using it in the room. No over bright colours, just pastels. Trust me, you will bless me for this one. There is no comparison of a pastel shade with a bright stark colour. Add white or creme or buff to one or two other colours to make it easy to coordinate the room in soft shades rather than blaring hurtful tones. Tip # 10 Use as much recycled furniture as you can for these rooms. If you are a DYI person this is the time to shine. Pull up the gloves and hunt the seconds market for the just in shape chest of drawers and beds and tables and chairs etc. Get creative and use decoupage to pretty up the furniture and paint it in non lead shades of soft pastels If you are adventures this maybe a lovely time between you and you LO,mgetting paint spattered and making up a room for them Tip #11 We all love the art work our babies bring home or create during play. But it needs a space. Create a soft wall of matching shades on one wall of the childs room and stick these art creatives there. The room will be less messy and the child more organised without having to be told. This is the best investment ever Tip # 12 Kids love writing on walls. Because they dont have enough space to doodle elsewhere So get them that wall. Get a big white board and doodle there with them so that when you stop them from messing the rest of the house this is the one place they have to mess with as much as they want. Keep it low so they can reach it and raise it with the years. The soft board and the white board are investments for years. Tip # 13 The kids room tub! A child has to roll. Squeeze. Mess. Squelch! If you dont give that space, it will be the rest of the house. For kids from 6 months to 4/5 years a fairly large room tub to mess around like the above can be god sent And for you a prayer answered, as now you only have to wash the tub, not the expensive leather of your favourite living room sofa. Hide it under their bed if you must and make tub and squelching time fun. Here is a short easy to maintain and easy on the purse, childs room idea in red white and black White (off white) walls, and curtains. The latter with a double piping of red and black on the top edges Off white painted or plastic cupboards or red ones Off white and red plastic chest of drawers. Red and black inflatable football chair A large red plastic tub A red plastic table Red and black plastic chair with off white removable cushion An easy inflatable in red and black for you A small red carpet with low pelt A white bed with white sheets and cushions in red and black. Red and white baskets for storing toys White window frames Red and black line drawings of the favourite cartoon characters on one wall (preferably behind the bed) Stickers or painted Red and black pattern soft board White with black edge white board side by side with the soft board. Easy, simple and so not going to kill your pocket
