Aponia (ἀπονία) is an experiential state without any mental - TopicsExpress

Aponia (ἀπονία) is an experiential state without any mental or physical pain, suffering or neediness (want or craving), and this was regarded by the Epicureans to be one of the two ultimate goals in living, the other one being Ataraxia (which is a lucid state of robust tranquility, characterized by ongoing freedom from mental distress, disturbance, fear, anxiety or worry). Aponia is akin to an undisturbed state of satisfaction or gratification of modern psychology. For Epicurus, aponia (like ataraxia) was a katastematic (static; at rest) pleasure that one has when there is no want or pain to be removed. However, in order to achieve such a state, one has to experience kinetic pleasure(s), that is, a pleasure one has when want or pain is being removed through some activity or action. youtu.be/k4_58415_rw?list=PLECA9852E7013AD9F
