Apparently AMC is considering subscriptions. The article says average prices per ticket are 9 something bucks. Not in Los Angeles. Its 13 bucks up, unless you want IMAX, which is 16 up. If you want popcorn its 6 up. If you want a simple dinner at a food court its 10 up. Do the math. Movie, popcorn, soda (ok I dont drink soda but most do), dinner, one person 35-40 bucks plus at places like odious Westfield Century City Mall, parking can be 8 bucks more. So for that movie date, a young couple will pay 80+ bucks. Even if you could see a movie a day, there arent 30 new movies a month. I want to see a movie a week, but there are fewer and fewer movies I want to see. So maybe if AMC would look at realities, i.e. a movie is now a ridiculously expensive outing, and often the movies are crappy, maybe they could wake up, lower the prices, and people would go again. Or they could rent tasers so annoyed people who are spending 40 bucks a head could get rid of those on cell phones who prevent seeing and hearing that movie.
