Apparently I STUPIDLY dropped my wallet this morning and some nimrod is happily charging away at gas stations across King County, using my company credit cards. Commerce Bank called me: hey your card is being used Me: okay please stop it. Commerce Bank:Okay no problem, well issue you a new one and freeze your account for no more use. Me: great, thanks no problem. On to American Express. (after wading through their stupid auto system to a live person....Me: Hi I dropped my wallet and apparently my cards are being used, I need to stop them: Amex: Oh thats too bad, (may I re-ask you all the verifiying questions that I just went through on their auto-system)....Okay, lets look at these charges...1, 2, 3, 4, Me: correct all are fraudulent. Amex: Okay, then I need to transfer your to our fraud department. Me: Okay. Amex: Hi this is the fraud department, I see your card is lost/stolen, may I verify a few things first (re-visit verifying comment above). Thank you Miss Bright, lets look at the charges from today, 1, 2, 3, 4, now 5 ....Okay it looks like these are fraudulent. I am going to need to call you back on a secure line. Me: Okay, what number are you calling me back on as I have a couple, and I dont know what number you have on file. Amex: I cant tell you the number due to security reasons. Me: okay, so the fact that I have given you verifying information THREE times already does not mean anything to your security? If you cant tell me the number, I cant verify that the call will come to me as we have an automated system. Amex: well we will just have to try. Me: NO NO NO....you will call me back on my office line which is ..... but whatever you do can you just PLEASE stop the card so that the charges dont keep occurring? Amex: well....Ill try. hang up. Ring Ring Me: Hello; Amex: Hello Ms Bright this is Sandy from American Express Fraud department, now on a secure line. Before I can process the lost card, I will need to re-verify your...... Yes....this just happened....and during re-verification another charge hit. People you make it all so complicated.
