Apparently Ive lapsed in my commitment to the five day music - TopicsExpress

Apparently Ive lapsed in my commitment to the five day music challenge, so Im redefining the rules: Im doing five days, just not necessarily consecutively. The rules: each day pick one of your top five pieces of music, say a few words about it if you feel so inclined, and challenge three friends to pick up the baton. Tim Bower tagged me and I answered with the Rumble Fish soundtrack and tagged Robert C. Cumbow to join. For day two, Im picking my favorite song from my favorite album by my favorite Seattle band. Now Seattle bands you expect to see chosen as favorites span Nirvana to Heart, and folks who know me might guess The Fastbacks or Young Fresh Fellows or The Sonics. All good choices, as are Seattle-connected JImi Hendrix and Quincy Jones. But Im going to pick a band I discovered only a few years ago, just before they broke up, because they are the Seattle band I still turn to revisit with a spin of their CDs every month or two (I havent made the switch to a digital library or streaming music subscription). That band: Visqueen, led by singer / songwriter / lead guitarist Rachel Flotard. The song: Hand Me Down, from the album Message to Garcia. There are some songs I turn to because they just make me happy. Hand Me Down is on the short list. It really rocks, but it also is such a celebration in song. There are a lot of live versions on YouTube. Heres the recorded version from the Scott Pilgrim vs. The World soundtrack. For this pick I reach out and tag the person most responsible for introducing me to the best Seattle bands, past and present, when I first moved to Seattle, my former Scarecrow colleague and all-around rock maven Susan Merrill, to pick her top five pieces of music. https://youtube/watch?v=K2Vk87CbiOk
