Apparently Trixie Bella Winters has been removed .. (Maybe she was a trolll or trouble-maker? Dunno....) She was talking about atrox mostly .. climbing in trees. Anyhoo... since I posted a response here it is... Perhaps someone else wants to chime in. Im interested in the discussion... wasnt trying to call her out or a liar or anything... just saying my observations were different from hers.... So..... heres what I wrote: I understand where youre coming from, Trixie. They can climb and will climb under some circumstances. But I would still call them basically a terrestrial snake because thats where theyre typically found in the wild. I do believe that studies and general statistics bear this out but would be happy if you know of any studies or links that suggest otherwise. I dont know... Perhaps were defining terrestrial vs arboreal a little differently... Also, I dont know how much captive behavior various from wild behavior in this particular arena. I suspect there may be some divergence there. Ive had even crotalus cerastes climb things in cages.. decorations, tree limbs, etc.... And I dont doubt that snakes we encounter in the wild (that we wouldnt normally consider arboreal ) will sometimes climb for food, thermoregulation or to avoid danger .. especially if theyre spooked by us and reacting in an unpredictable and/or atypical manner. Im just saying there are a lot of variables to consider... which is why scientists are still studying these things. Im not a scientist... just an enthusiast/hobbyist for years... :)
