Apparently, cilantro and non-dried varieties of mint, parsley, - TopicsExpress

Apparently, cilantro and non-dried varieties of mint, parsley, basil, oregano, and dill are rather unpopular in Montenegro (to the extent of being available in none of the major supermarkets, although they have bombastic lettuces and leeks over here, as well as mind-blowing celeriacs, and the quality of ingredients is generally very high), so well have to grow some of our favourite greens by ourselves. The problem, though, is that up until now all our dwellings were flats or parts of houses with no garden access. This translates to us having zero gardening experience. What are the common caveats? Where does one begin? I hear mint is a good choice for absolute beginners, and I absolutely MUST have cilantro, but how hard is it to grow basil and oregano, for instance? Oh, and what about kasuri methi? Is fenugreek an option in the subtropics at all? Whoever has experience with gardening is welcome to rant as long as they like provided they tell us something we havent been aware of to date :)
