Apparently, pneumonia (lung infection) (in my case...twice - TopicsExpress

Apparently, pneumonia (lung infection) (in my case...twice recently) can cause a lobe to fill with secretions which is not good at all. Bacteria can enter the lungs when the bodys resistance is lowered due to certain conditions, the normal bacteria of the mouth and the throat multiply and invade one or all of the 5 sections (lobes) of the lungs. This causes interference with the lungs normal oxygen exchange. My pulmonologist discovered recently that my smallest lobe is not working, so I was scheduled for a CT of my lungs. I cancelled that test when I found that I would be required to lie flat on my back during this test. I simply cannot tolerate lying supine. (Heck! Ive slept in a recliner for over 12 years because of back pain.) I had another chest X-ray today & it shows no change. I go back in 7 weeks for yet another X-ray & if its still the same, then the Dr. will schedule me for a procedure which would involve inserting a tube into my bronchial airway & suctioning the secretions out. Right now, Im doing a search on the internet to see if theres something I can do here at home. I certainly dont relish the idea of this procedure, but if I must...I must! Back to my search engine.
