Apparently, the Koch brothers and their billionaire allies are worried about Americas poor. But its a very odd sort of worry. Earlier this year at a conference for the Republican’s largest donors hosted by Charles and David Koch at the luxurious St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort, in Dana Point, California, Richard Fink, the Koch’s in-house economist, sounded off against the minimum wage. The big danger of minimum wage isn’t the fact that some people are being paid more than their value-added, he said. Its the five hundred thousand people that will not have a job because of the minimum wage.” Fink warned that such a large group of disillusioned and unemployed people would become “the main recruiting ground for totalitarianism, for fascism.” The conference-goers presumably nodded in sober agreement before getting back to their frois gras. I wonder if any of the conference goers thought for an instant that perhaps they were the main recruiting ground for totalitarianism.
