Ive never felt threatened by a fellow commuter, but some black-uniformed cop with iron on his (or her) hip? Thats scary. The gun could get swiped and fired, or could get drawn in a dispute with a commuter... the idea of either occurring in the closed confines of a moving Skytrain car is TERRIFYING. Plus theres a whole police state aesthetic (fare evaders up against the wall!) that is far more intimidating than reassuring.
