Apparently, yesterday marked the 30th anniversary of the very first My Little Pony cartoon: a TV special called Rescue at Midnight Castle. A few years ago, for curiositys sake, we reviewed it. In the special, a Satanic centaur voiced by the narrator from Transformers captures ponies and uses black magic to transform them into demonic Hellbeasts which will haul his brimstone chariot across the Heavens, allowing him to release the Powers of Darkness (visualized as a still-beating disembodied heart in a burlap sack) and blot out the sun. The sweet, cutesy wootsy ponies kill him with a massive fireball and scatter his charred chunks across the countryside. Also, Tony Randall has a musical number.
