Appearing on Democracy Now to discuss his new book “Black Prophetic Fire”, Dr. Cornel West declared that we are witnessing the era of the sell out. West discusses the late black journalist Carl Rowan, who dismissed Malcolm X and mocked Martin Luther King Jr., and says “we’re living through the Carl Rowanization of black journalism.” These black journalists, West says, “act as if they’re saying something critical, but it’s milquetoast and well adjusted to the status quo.” Dr. West also believes black folks have gotten wrapped up in a “highly commodified culture” with its “instant gratification.” In that sense, we’re sleepwalking and aren’t concerned with the true issues of life. ~STAND UP~
