Apple announced at WDC yesterday that its planning on developing products with Philips Hue lighting system, a weather station and creating door locks and baby monitors. Another highlight is Apple Health, a new step in health and wellness personal technology. Apple executive Craig Federighi said it will integrate data from various fitness-related devices including Nikes. Apple said its working with the Mayo Clinic to give users a comprehensive picture of what their health metrics mean. So, wearable technology. So, that means your biometric data will soon be in their hands. I see a very sucky year for Apple as it spreads its resources thin in areas not in its core competency. As far as its Swift language? As an Apple software developer its just another stumbling block. Zilch about the mention of any new devices such as an iPhone 6, iWatch or a set-top box. Im really enjoying the UI on my Apple box, but it has a long way to go and more partnerships to iron out current products. Hard to see where any of this is going. All of this forced saturation into other areas seems too blind unless planning other large acquisitions sometime soon, as theyve never done well with partnerships.... I keep thinking they missed the boat on purchasing LSIs flash division — Seagate picked them up last week for $450M. That would have been more in line with where they are now, and theyre pretty good in manufacturing. If you look at one of their biggest weaknesses... customer service — it will be interesting to see, as these new products roll out, how they squish them into their already overcrowded stores and training their already taxed geniuses (and I do use that term laughing my ass off) to sell home security (this IS where all of this is going) and theyll be scheduling people to come out and do installations. Perhaps theyre aiming at partnerships with cable/cell companies, as their products are already in Verizon and ATT stores. Itll be interesting to see where they go with distribution. If they beef up that division with all of the home appliance products and Apple Box they could eventually sell it in a huge acquisition. They dont have the wherewithal or political acumen to run a cable company — too much FCC red tape to do that.... I just look at these announcements and instead of seeing a clearcut strategy, it just makes me sit back and wonder how much of my Apple stock I should let go.
