Here are 10 rumours about the iPhone 6. Will it be the iPhone 6 or 5S? Ever since the 3, iPhones have been released with a half-step S model before the next numbered iPhone leading many commentators to expect the next release to be an iPhone 5S rather than a iPhone 6. Release date Apple fiercely protects the release dates but the smart money’s on a late summer date with many pundits expecting the technology giant to move to a two phones a year upgrade cycle. But beware the pundits - many predicted the 5S would already be with us. How big will it be? The all important size question is one of the biggest rumours around. These mocked up images by an artist called Peter Zigich ask the question ‘is one iphone enough’ and takes the logic of the different size iPods to the question of a new phone. Could multiple size offerings be this year’s new big thing? Camera One thing’s for sure, whatever the size and other spec for the new iPhone, it will have to have something to shout about in the camera department to compete with some of the other offerings including Samsung’s Galaxy. Experts predict a 13 megpixel sensor plus Apple Insider uncovered an Apple patent which could turn the phone into something like a pro photo studio with a system to remotely control flashes and other devices. Casing To date, other than specials, Apple’s taken an almost Henry Ford approach to the iPhone but that could be about to change with a burst of colour. One of the most widely circulated expectations is that the next iPhone will feature changeable coloured plastic backplates with a series of blue, green, yellow and white cases. Operating system A move onto 1os 7 is expected with the new release. Developer logs obtained by The Next Web suggested back at the start of the year that members of Apple’s software development and app teams are compatibility testing some of the more popular or well-known applications already on the App Store with this new system. Screen A higher resolution retina display for the iPhone 6 has been hinted at but Apple CEO Tim Cook has been widely reported in a call to investors saying the iPhone 5S is likely to featured the same retina display as the iPhone 5. That hasn’t stopped other screen speculation though - the Emirates 24/4 website claims Sharp has developed an ultra-sensitive transparent touchscreen has been developed for the new phone. Fingerprint sensor How would you like your fingerprint scanned by your mobile? In another of those rumours started by trawling through Apple’s patent applications the sensor to identify a fingerprint was spotted last month. Near field communication NFC, a wireless communicaton technology could become an integral part of the new phone and help with a payments solution called iWallet which could potentially mean the new iPhone could be used to deposit money into bank accounts by taking pictures of cheques and instantly sending codes to the banks. Better battery power And finally, with that one piece of news alone, iPhone owners would rejoice! A constant grumble of the current phones is the quick lack of juice. Whether its a rumour or just wishful thinking, moves to improve the batter life of the new device are regularly mooted and include rechargable backpacks.
