Applebee‘s Update I apologized for the way that I reported what I saw because the young man lost a family member. However, I got more grief from some of the readers when I did apologize than I did my actual post. I was called “heartless” a “turd” and other words that I will not mention. The reason for the so called name calling, I didn’t want to identify his real name. I do know his real name and will not reveal it. The only people who know who he is, are myself and my wife and himself. The reason that I know that he knows is that I have a Sumter County Undercover man business card made up. I didn’t present it to him, I wrapped it up with the eight dollar tip that I gave him. My food was 48.00. I think that that was a pretty good tip considering the service that was received. The hostess said that he was the best server around. There was a lot of hype. The reference Nature Boy comes from a professional wrestler by the name of Ric Flair. He comes out to the wrestling ring amongst a lot of hype. That’s why the reference. I don’t consider that name calling. Slow Poke Rodriguez is a cartoon character who is the exact opposite of Speedy Gonzalez. The references were not in any attempt to demean anyone’s character. I stated in my post several times that the waiter was very nice and polite. I was just referring to his work ethic A young lady who works at Applebee’s said the reason that he was slow was because he was grieving a family member. I have asked her several times how does she know who my server was? What was his name? She has not responded. I’m giving her the benefit of the doubt. Maybe her computer died or something. I would like her response, As far as the grieving that this man was going through, a table of young ladies were beside us and he was flirting with them like crazy. Heck, I don’t blame him. However, remember he was slow and uncaring because of a lost family member. The young lady who was giving me heck also said that maybe they were friends who came in to console him. NOT! They were having a birthday party for someone and I heard him introduce himself. The young lady at Applebee’s who has been giving me heck also said that he was new. If he was new, why would the hostess say that he’s the best? Maybe they are trained to say that, I don’t know. If they are, that is the fault of management. If he is the best someone is telling the untruth. The young lady that is giving me heck says that she is the best. Some of my readers have stated names of other servers and said that they are the best. Who is the best? I need to know? The point that I’m trying to make is that this is a page of my professional opinion and nothing else. I called myself a professional because I have been in the customer service industry for over 40 years. I have a degree in business and a degree in public relations and marketing. Does that make me the best? Of course not it just makes me qualified. Take for instance, I have had some sorry doctors, attorneys and teachers. They all have the qualification to be what they are, but they might be sorry. In my day job, I have the degree to do it. I might be sorry, but I shouldn’t be. I was properly trained to do my job the best that I can. And yes I have been told that I am sorry by a client or customer. That is there opinion. I take what they tell me and try to improve where they thought that I fell short. That is one of my objectives for this page. I don’t ever publicized the person’s name if they give me bad service. However, sometimes I do publicize the name of someone that gives me good service. I hope that this clarifies what my page is all about. I’m here for the citizens of Sumter County who demand customer service. I am again truly sorry if that young man lost a family member. However, in my personal opinion, I don’t think that that is why I received bad customer service. Just my opinion people. U.M.
