Applicant lodges FIR against irregular appointment by V-B SANTINIKETAN: A resident of Kerala has lodged an FIR at Bolpur police station against Visva-Bharati authorities for depriving him and giving somebody else a job of assistant professor in Kathakali at Sangeet Bhavan. The FIR also named the person who allegedly bagged the job unlawfully. The complainant has also moved Calcutta high court. Visva- Bharati published an advertisement (ADVT. No 03.2012) on March 31, 2012 inviting application for 86 posts of professor, associate professor and assistant professor in different disciplines. Accordingly, Radhakrishnan. A, a resident of Pulappatta village of Kerala applied for the post of assistant professor in Kathalali. “I’m a master’s degree holder and obtained first class from Mahatma Gandhi University in Kathakali Vesam, which specialises in the dance form. I also have experience of performing at national and international levels,” Radhakrishnan A told HT on Thursday. The person who got the job was N P Sankaranarayanan. “We have come to know after the appointment that the documents produced and statement made by N P Sankaranarayanan, at the time of selection were false and fabricated. It appears from his bio-data that he has obtained bachelor degree in Kathakali (Chenda) from Kerala Kalamandalam University in 1981 and obtained master’s in 1982. At the time of his appointment he specifically mentioned and produced documents that Kerala Kalamandalam University was a deemed university. But that university has deemed in 2006 (vide order no. F-9-11/99/03 dated 14/03/2006). That means he produced false documents,” said Indradeep Pal, lawyer of Radhakrishnan A. The lawyer also alleged, “Just to give advantage to N P Sankaranarayanan the university authorities changed the advertisement only for that post, saying they required Kathakali (Chenda) for the post. But in bachelors degree, Chenda is not taught in VB. Also while the age limit for assistant professor was 35, when Sankaranarayanan joined he was 52.” Experts told Hindustan Times that in Kathakali Vesam is important, while Chenda has a supporting role. Pal also claimed despite writing several letters seeking explanations for their action, VB authorities kept quiet. “We also requested varsity authorities to take necessary step against N P Sankaranarayanan. Unfortunately till today they have not taken any step for which we have to approach the Calcutta high court. We have lodged FIR against VisvaBharati’s appointing authorities and N P Sankaranarayanan with Bolpur PS,” Pal said. “VB is no stranger to such controversies. If one scrutinizes the appointments, many will be found to be irregular,” said a senior VB official in condition of anonymity. No VB official was available to comment on the allegation.
