Applications for the Lincolnshire Elite Athlete Programme are now open for 2014. Athletes in Lincolnshire can now apply for support and funding of up to £1,000 from the Lincolnshire Sports Partnership, thanks to their Elite Athlete Programme. County, Regional, National and International sports performers are being encouraged to apply to join the Lincolnshire Elite Athlete Programme (LEAP), which provides a variety of help, support and funding for local athletes, including: • Funding of up to £1,000 • Mentoring • Performance Camp with double Olympic medallist Bryan Steel • Media training course • Support with promotion and marketing • Opportunities to attend training courses • Support through Sports Massage and Remedial Therapy company CS-SMART Working with a variety of partners including Lincolnshire County Council, District Councils and Corporate Club organisations, LEAP supports 50 athletes each year. Lincolnshire Skier, Jade Etherington, is a current LEAP athlete and has received a variety of support from the programme. She said: “LEAP support has enabled me to buy my own set of Bluetooth headsets needed when I ski with a guide. Having our own set has meant we can go skiing at an indoor slope in the UK, increasing our training frequency, enabling us to build our trust and confidence together quickly.” Janet Inman, CEO at the Lincolnshire Sports Partnership, said: “This is fantastic programme of support for our local athletes. The current UK sports system provides funding for top-end elite performers through Lottery funding, but the tier below that has what could be best described as ‘patchwork’ support. LEAP offers a better, more consistent level of support to that level of performer in Lincolnshire.” Applications for the Lincolnshire Elite Athlete Programme (LEAP) 2014 are available to download from lincolnshiresports/sport/lincolnshire-elite-athlete-programme/ or by emailing [email protected].
