Applications open on 3 November 2014. Recruiting and retaining high-quality medical professionals is fundamental to Mediclinic Southern Africa’s sustainability. There remains an ongoing shortage of nurses in South Africa. According to a 2013 survey by the SA Institute of Race Relations, South Africa needs over 44000 nurses. In the short term Mediclinic Southern Africa has addressed this by recruiting nurses from India. The longer-term solution is to increase local training. To this end, Mediclinic plans to double their training capacity over the next number of years. Mediclinic’s training and development function is registered as a Private Higher Education Institution and offers a Certificate: Enrolled Nurse and a Diploma in Operating Department Assistance to promote training of skilled healthcare personnel and thus sustain quality outcomes in providing healthcare. A total of 451 learners completed undergraduate programmes during the 2013 academic year. For this intake formal programmes will commence in June 2015 to provide learners with the appropriate knowledge and skills needed to perform fundamental nursing care. Successful applicants will be employed by Mediclinic, which funds the programme for its employees. Learners are only responsible for the cost of any prescribed and recommended books. The programmes are available at the following registered learning centres: Pretoria (Certificate: Enrolled Nurse only) Nelspruit Bloemfontein Bellville Sandton Limpopo Entry Requirements: Certificate: Enrolled Nurse Grade 12 with admission to higher certificate or equivalent D aggregate (950 marks) – old senior certificate Mathematical literacy or Mathematics at NQF level 4 (min. 40%) Any science subject at NQF level 4 (min. 40%) Literacy skills (English) at NQF level 4 (min. 40%) Payment of a non-refundable application fee Recognition of prior learning based on criterion-referenced assessment for learners with healthcare-related experience Entry Requirements: (Diploma in Operating Department Assistance) Grade 12 with admission to diploma or equivalent with an average of 50%. Old Senior Certificate: D-aggregate (950 marks). Mathematical literacy (min. 50%) or mathematics at NQF level 4 (min. 40%). Any science subject at NQF level 4 (min. 40%). English at NQF level 4 (min. 40%). Payment of a non-refundable application fee. Recognition of prior learning based on criterion-referenced assessment for learners with healthcare-related experience, if applicable. South African citizenship. Applicants will also undergo psychometric testing, an interview and health assessment. You may have to travel to the nearest approved learner centre for theoretical instructions What is required from you Mediclinic (Pty) Ltd Private Higher Education Institution graduates must sign a contract to work back double the length of the programme completed. If a learner does not complete the programme successfully, he or she will be liable for programme and administration costs. How to apply: Mediclinic has introduced a new application process. The company will no longer be using the old SMS application method. From now on, you be required to register online and upload personal information in order to apply for education opportunities.
