Appointments of Rice and Powers: Disappointing for sure, but there is probably some reasoning behind the madness. Is Obama’s attempting to balance the realists (Hagel and Kerry) versus the interventionists (Rice and Powers)? If this is the case, Hagel and Kerry will lose. My bet is the following: Obama is essentially repeating Nixon’s strategy – fortress White House, absolute concentration of power and secrecy. Not good for American foreign policy and not good for the world. Stupidly, Obama and has crowd think being a Liberal Hawk is virtuous. The fact is Liberal Hawks are Neocons wearing lipstick.
