Appreciate all seasons Posted September 8, 2013 The season of summer is officially over. I heard someone just a few weeks ago say that they were tired of summer and all the heat and couldn’t wait for fall and I’m sure someone will have similar sentiments about fall as they look forward to winter. But you should remember that every season is important and every season has a purpose. You will also have seasons in your life. Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 1 There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: 2 a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, 3 a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, 4 a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, 5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, 6 a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, 7 a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, 8 a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace. You will experience all kinds of seasons in your life…some of them will be wonderful and some of them will be painful but you should learn to appreciate every season for what it has to offer and refrain from the desire to rush through them. Rushing each season just rushes time…is that really something you want, to rush time? Appreciate every season and savor its uniqueness. Time is a gift and it tends to pass quickly. There is a healthy and wonderful urgency to it; not one that should make you worry or be anxious, but hopeful and excited about every second you have. Use every moment you’re given toward something productive, valuable, and glorifying to God. Don’t squander it on just anything. Psalm 90:12, “Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” Knowing that time flies, as they say, is part of being wise and consequently, using your time wisely. Of all the commodities in your life, time is the only one you can’t make more of. Be a good steward of your time. This precious gift is something to explore, enjoy, and maximize. You do have a purpose and there are things that need to be done. You don’t want to rush or slow down your time because as Ecclesiastes points out, there are seasons and all things should be experienced in their proper time. Find the balance between productivity and rest, learning and teaching. Ephesians 5:15-16, “Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of your time…” Understanding that seasons come and go and understanding the weight and preciousness of time, and that it is passing, is imperative to learning to use it wisely. This will give you a heart of wisdom to be productive and glorifying to God.
