Appropriately selected games affect the development of young people and help maintaining mental fitness of older people. Professor Jeffrey Goldstein of the University of Utrecht believes that games have a positive impact and are good for childrens cognitive competence. Moreover, they improve academic performance by up to 40 percent. The results of research conducted by Professor Arthur Kramer, a psychologist at the University of Illinois, have shown that people over the age of 60 who regularly play strategic games improve their ability of memorizing, planning and decision-making in ambiguous situations.
