Apres le deluge... Well, after I got back from the Huskies on - TopicsExpress

Apres le deluge... Well, after I got back from the Huskies on Saturday night, I went to bed exhausted. Around 6 am a police officer (whom I know well) knocked at my door. It seems my washer got a mind of its own and started a little Niagara Falls in my laundry room. it flooded my living room, kitchen, and laundry room with a couple of inches of water. So instead of a restful holiday week-end, we have been moving stuff, cleaning, and getting out of the way of the Serv-Pro guys. Not good work for an old guy with a heart defibrillator and a very bad back. Still, progress is being made. The odd thing is that the last time I used the washer was on Wednesday before the big flood. Three days plus with no signs of problems. I had put a shirt with an ink stain in to soak along with some odds and ends. The thing was only 1/3 full when I noticed the timer was not working (pointer not moving) and shut it off, still only partially full. This was Wednesday night before bed. I had very busy Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, so I just left the shirt in the water to soak out the ink. I did not hear anything odd until the officer knocked. The lady in the apartment below/kitty corner apparently noticed water at around 1 am, which is before I got home. She did not say anything to anyone. I did not hear or see anything odd, but did go right to bed. Anyway, we got ServPro right in and they cleaned up the downstairs units and mine is still drying, with blowers and heaters. it is very warm in the living room and other damage centers, so moving boxes of possessions and legal files is no fun (no legal files destroyed but some nice clothes and other things are done forever). So it appears that the timer shorted, but it is also clear that the level controlling float totally malfunctioned. But since I had not been near the thing since Wednesday, I either have poltergeists or a washer with a bad attitude. Cleaning as fast as we can, with the Serv Pro folks come back tomorrow to put in new floors in the kitchen and laundry room, and new carpet in the living room. So count your lucky stars on this Veterans Day when we remember those who have fought for our freedom and way of life.
