April 11, 2014 TO: Parents FROM: Dr. Franco RE: Dismissal On Monday April 14, 2014 As you may know, after recent tragedies, Officer Guerra will be buried at Saint John’s Cemetery on Monday. Police will be partially closing down the area around dismissal time. I have been in contact with the Detective in charge from the 104. For this Monday, April 14, only, let us make every effort to be patient and understanding as this closure is certainly needed and warranted. May He rest in the Peace of Christ. We will do the following • 11AM Dismissal will take place with no anticipated changes. • All students who are dismissed full day will be dismissed FROM THE SCHOOL YARD. • No one will be dismissed directly onto 80th street. Although they could not guarantee it, it is very possible NYPD will close the street totally at dismissal time. All students will therefore leave through the yard and be directed toward 79th. • As usual, Do NOT enter the yard with Vehicles. • Give yourself extra time and expect the possibility of delays. • Due to all students leaving through the YARD we will staggered, Monday ONLY, slightly more that usual. • Little Building (N, PreK , K) will be dismissed via the yard at 2:25 (usual time) • Grades 1-5 Inclusive will be dismissed via the yard at 2:40 • Grades 6,7,8 will be dismissed via the yard at 2:55 • Please make every effort to leave as soon as your child is picked up to avoid crowding. • Even if the NYPD has NOT closed 80th at that time, we will still stick to this plan in order to avoid confusion. So assume this plan is ON. • Please make every effort to respect the solemnity of the situation and try to be as patient and quick as possible. Keep all NYPD families in your prayers this week. I sincerely appreciate your patience in this matter. As we are not absolutely certain of the timing of these things, as well as not certain what dignitaries will be present, I believe this is the safest course to take. Please always follow the directions of any NYPD officers in the area. “For there is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for a friend.” John 15:13
