She remembers giggling a lot and going to Dairy Queen with her girlfriends afterwards to get Oreo blizzards. Something resonated though-she signed up for more, and in high school the first yoga studio opened in the city, where she began practicing Ashtanga twice a week. Lana left Alberta for Ontario in 2003 to attend Sheridan College’s Music Theatre Performance program. Often the weekends would involve traveling into Toronto to photocopy music and find yoga classes. Even now as she works at different theatres throughout the country and the US, yoga is a constant that keeps her grounded. Lana dabbled in many styles until she discovered Jivamukti. She fell in love with the richness of the practice and completed her 300 Hour training in 2009 at the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, New York. Later that year she studied Yin Yoga with Tracey Soghrati, a 40 hour certification. She has been graced with the teachings of many inspiring yogis, including David Life, Sharon Gannon, Sarah Powers, JP Tamblyn-Sabo, and all the beautiful souls from the Jivamukti Yoga Toronto community. Lana encourages students to turn their focus inward, go deep, and leave feeling soothed and stretched. Her classes are a mix of expressive asana, hands-on assists, and philosophy. Also an actor and musician, Lana merges her love for Sanskrit and song with the practice of kirtan (call and response chanting). You can find her creating good vibrations at studios throughout Toronto, sharing the magic of mantras. She has had the opportunity to sing and play with David Newman, Brenda McMorrow, Mike Cohen, Swaha, Jim Gelcer, Lea Longo, and John William Bauld. In August, 2013, Lana released her first album of mantra/kirtan music,Invocation. shantiretreat.ca/events/retreat-lineup/ See more at: shantiretreat.ca/events/retreat-lineup/#sthash.NtQKqHuJ.dpuf
