April 2, 2013, I completed the last day of 7 rough weeks of radiation treatment, with so much love and support from family and friends near and far. All of your kindness and care made it so much more manageable....So today, I thank everyone, for helping me reach this day. Dr. Tripuraneni, wont let me say its been: one year until today (and he and I actually meet for my monthly exam, tomorrow). As of tomorrow, I get to graduate to oncology exams every two months, for another year. Then, we graduate to every three months for another year. A constant reminder perhaps, but one that Ive learned to take as a gentle nudge to live my life now, not put things off, and smile, because I am here. I have been advised to expect only another six months to recover some of the losses from radiation side effects, or just manage with what has become the new normal. And while this has been challenging to accept, it is far more important to appreciate what I do have, what is right in front of me, and what lies ahead in a future. So, I will try to complain a bit less when I still cant taste something. For a cook and food/world traveler, that is challenging, I just have to say...but I am here.
