April 2013 Trade Expands Malaysia’s total trade in April 2013 grew by 2.5% to RM110.67 billion compared with April 2012. Higher trade with Singapore by RM1.45 billion; India, (↑RM691.4 million); the United Arab Emirates (UAE), (↑RM626.7 million); Belgium, (↑RM452.6 million) and the People’s Republic of China (PRC), (↑RM411.4 million) were major contributors to the increase. Exports valued at RM55.81 billion, decreased by 3.3% compared with April 2012. Decline in exports were recorded mainly to the PRC, Australia and Japan. The lower exports in April 2013 was mainly due to reduced exports of crude petroleum (↓RM951.9 million), electrical and electronic (E&E) products (↓RM711.1 million) primarily electronic integrated circuits as well as petroleum products (↓RM210.3 million). However, higher exports were recorded for machinery, appliances and parts, mainly pumps, compressors, fans and parts; chemicals and chemical products, primarily hydrocarbons and their derivatives as well as processed food. Imports in April 2013 increased by 9.2% to RM54.87 billion compared with April 2012. Imports of intermediate goods expanded by 7.2%. Imports of capital goods increased by 1.4% due mainly to the import of 2 units of aircraft and consumption goods increased by 12.3% with higher imports of milled rice. Exports of manufactured goods, with a share of 68.3% of total exports, registered a decrease of 1.5% to RM38.1 billion in April 2013 while exports of agricultural and mining goods was lower by 5.8% (to RM5.91 billion) and 8.8% (to RM11.27 billion), respectively. Major export products for the month were: • Electrical and electronic products valued at RM17.78 billion, with a share of 31.9%; • Refined petroleum products (RM4.08 billion, 7.3%); • Liquefied natural gas (RM4.06 billion, 7.3%); • Palm oil which includes crude palm oil; fractionated palm oil; palm kernel oil, olein and stearin (RM4.04 billion, 7.2%); and • Chemicals and chemical products (RM3.99 billion, 7.1%).
