April 25, 2014. Today was a great day with George Ishu. His CT scan looked healthy and he was able to have the last tube removed from his body that was draining excess fluid from his brain. His infection is successfully being treated by the antibiotics and his breathing is slowly but surely improving. His vitals all look great and he is medically on track. He sat in the rehabilitation chair much more successfully today and I watched him eat a full meal of macaroni and cheese, green beans, applesauce and milk. I told him this was the most carbs Ive seen him eat in the last 3 months. He laughed. George was the most talkative Ive seen him since the incident. He has lots to say and although his words are mostly garbled and mumbled hes clearly able to say ya and I know and he even was able to give me a discernible I love you. He has perfected his ability at make kissing motions with his lips and continually blows me kisses and kisses me on the cheeks and hands. He has lots to say and each day hes able to make out more of the words and sounds. Hes calm and has an almost childlike presence about him that gives me comfort. I find it exhilarating to watch him as he learns to do the things we do each day so easily and take for granted. I imagine this is what most parents feel like as they watch their children grow and learn. Its quite remarkable. The best part of the day was when George farted and gave me this surprised and almost shocked look. It was the first real facial expression Ive see him make other than a smile or sadness. We both just laughed and laughed. It was the most Ive laughed in weeks. It was amazing.
