April 6th was National Tartan Day. In celebration of the Declaration of Arbroath, the Scottish Declaration of Independence, which was signed on April 6, 1320 and on which the American Declaration of Independence was modeled. Almost half the signers of our Declaration were of Scottish descent; and 9 of the Governors of the original 13 Colonies were of Scottish ancestry. My probable Scots ancestor, Isaac Cummings, landed here in the 1630s. Aye, laddie.
